KARMA........The Ultimate Power of the Universe

"What goes around, Comes around...."
"Karma moves in two directions. If we act virtuously, the seed we plant will result in happiness. If we act non-virtuously, suffering will result." Sakyong Mipham
The most authentic and powerful of my spiritual and philosophical beliefs, has always been and shall remain, the Universal Force of "Karma." I believe in the pure existence of Karma. I trust implicitly, in it's truth and fidelity, as I do no human.
Deepak Chopra, world-renowned author, lecturer and a leader in the field of mind-body human potential, offers us understanding of Karma. In his vast wisdom, he presents "Karma," as the third law of the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, within the pages of his book by the same name. He tells us, "Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us, in like kind.....what we sow is what we reap."
Karma, the Law of Cause and Effect
"Karma is the eternal assertion of human freedom..........Our thoughts, our words and deeds are the threads of the net which we throw around ourselves." Swami Vivekananda
There is nothing unfamiliar about the Law of Karma. Everyone has heard the expression. We are all free to accept or reject this law. Again, I embrace Karma with my all, at all times. I have simply never seen it fail. Not once. Karma feeds my inner peace, for I know, no matter what, all actions are returned, often ten-fold. Whether it is evil or it is goodness. The return of goodness is easily welcomed with gratitude & grace. It is the evil, man must fear. The Law of Karma says that no debt in the Universe goes upaid.
Do you have an unpaid debt for having hurt someone by offending or insulting them? Human beings can hide behind a cloud of lies and run from what they know to be right, but there is no hiding from Karma. Have you asked yourself if the conscious choices that you made to lash out and hurt someone will bring fulfillment and happiness? Only a fool would believe this. The debt will be your own unhappiness and feelings of shame. Perhaps you'll suffer far more inner pain than that which you had caused. Down every road, there will always be someone more evil to inflict more discomfort..... or someone more loving to bring you comfort. In our hearts, we all know what we're deserving of........just look to the law of Karma.
A Stunning example of Karma. Surely we remember O.J. Simpson?
Oh dear, me oh my, poor O.J. No more golfing, girlfriends, autographs, no more freedom. Look at what you've gone and done. Or did you continue to believe you were untouchable, above reproach? Yes, I'm sure that was it. If you can pay your way out and manipulate the system, fool a panel of 12 peers.....anything else could be done without a hitch. Wrong. Karma held your debt in a safe place and came to reap it's due. For Karma, it's never a matter of "if", but merely a matter of "when." Gottcha!!
This was a much more public and infamous retribution for Karma, but it's aura is constant and ever vigililant in the lives of each and every one of us. Never doubt this for a moment. Be ever mindful, as you make the choices in your life each day. Be fully conscious in the present, of your interactions with your fellow-man. Give the love, respect and honesty that you expect to receive. Keep your anger and intolerance in check. One hateful act of vengence is exactly what your enemy wants. When in fact, the best revenge is to rise above, move forward and trust fully, in the Law of Karma. You owe those who would hurt you, nothing. You owe yourself and the Universe, a generous heart and a rational mind. This is the best way to understand and maximize karmic law.
"In the practice of tolerance, one's enemy is the best teacher......The Dalhi Lama
With a growing awareness of the oneness and connectedness of all humanity, a new and burgeoning focus upon the Law of Karma is apparent. From the nameless person on the street to Professors, celebrities, your neighbors and friends, we hear the unique and personal translations of what it means to them. The quote above by the Dalhi Lama is one I hope to engrain into my very fiber. It seems one of the most difficult to accept. After all, we don't like our enemies nor do we want to try.
"When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself." (Dr. Wayne Dyer.)
And so it would seem, each day we should make an attempt to give love and happiness to others and it will be given to us. If we choose to dramatize the least of slights, we attempt to make ourself a victim as we point the blame at anyone but ourself. When we demean and belittle an equal.....do we not do this to ourselves as well?
As all this chaos creates negativity and anger, we set ourselves up for failure. Like a viscious cycle, our actions and reactions come back full circle, reaching out to point right back at us.
I get it. I'm sure you get it. There's only one way to share the wisdom. Person to person, day by day, giving and sharing, cause and effect. Keeping in mind, what goes around, comes around.

Loved this hub! I learned some time back that if I was kind to others, it was also easier to be kind to myself--not exactly a karmic statement, but close
Hey Miss Karma! I took your quiz and I said I believe in Karma with all my being and it said I scored 0% - what gives?! Im only playing :) I too believe in karma. I have seen it so many times. I usually sit back out of the way and let the energies deal with people who are doing wrong. It takes time to come back (sometimes) but it always does. Great article here
You are so welcome--shared this!
I'm not a big believer in Karma, the way some people talk about it. It often sounds very superstitious and magical to me. It doesn't explain why bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people, etc. It proposes a perfect justice that just doesn't exist in this world. I do believe that the more good choices we make in our lives, the better our lives will be and that a life lived with higher values and purpose is more rewarding than the alternatives. Thanks for the food for thought and the evening reflection, fpherj48....and I like the new pic:)
Sometimes I think I believe in Karma, but it does seem that good never seems to happen for some people, no matter how much they might "deserve" it. Still, maybe their good Karma hasn't come around yet. I'm hoping for some good Karma from a work situation in which I was recently very wronged due to nothing that I did wrong. We'll see. Great hub. You give us a lot of think about, effer! Voted useful, interesting, beautiful, and up!Sharing, too!
Great hub, i enjoyed it and yes casey anthony's karma will come around.
totally agree with the karmic laws...what we sow is what we will reap, in this lifetime.
i have also addresssed karma in my own way...would love your insight. link below..http://ruchira.hubpages.com/hub/My-Karma
Thanks!
I totally believe in karma,it all works out. And it works out better than anything you could ever say or do.
If you have a pure heart, mean no ill will to anyone, you'll be surprised how that pays back to yourself.Karma also shields you, keeps others ill will and bad thoughts from entering your space.
Karma Rules!
Great hub!
I truly like the way raster mermaid thinks! She's taught me much with her hubs! As has ruchira, she knows how to burn calories while writing!! :)
I believe in Karma. Growing up I had a horrible child hood. I pushed through it and was determined to be a good person no matter what. I knew that "he" would get what he deserved sooner or later. Karma caught up to him and he got just that.
Also on the good end of Karma, I've been doing good deeds all my life and not a single one has gone unnoticed (sometimes it takes a while but karma does catch up). Good Hub. Thanks - voted up and shared :)
This is very true
What goes around comes around.
Interesting!
Voting up and sharing
I agree. Karma is a thing we should watch out for. That is why I live my life with this motto "do people right, as much as you want them to do toward you"
Interesting hub, Thanks for sharing.
Good Hub,
Thanks
"Work is worship"
I have been living the laws of karma for almost 3 years now. I thought I was doing it a lot longer but I really wasn't. The most difficult for me has been non-judgement. I work on this daily and have made great progress.
It's amazing how much my life has improved since implementing the laws.
“ Karma moves in two directions. If we act virtuously, the seed we plant will result in happiness. If we act non-virtuously, suffering results. ” Sakyong Mipham
Nope. This is just wishful thinking and coincidence. Karma does not exist and will not stand up to scientific testing.
Absolutely! I'm pretty sure that my Karma is good! Voted up and interesting! Hope you enjoy my hubs as well!
I'll acknowledge his existence :)
If you aren't seeing this as religious, what force causes it?
What goes around comes around, Karma, Divine Justice...all the same. What you reap so shall you sow! Looks like you have lots of laughs and love ahead Effie. Another great hub. Voted up. Thanks for SHARING.
I have witness Karma at work so many times in my lifetime that there can never be any doubt as Its power and influence. This is a wonderful piece that needs to be repeated every so often to give us a little shake so that we may come to realize that the events we are experiencing in our lives are the result of our own Karma.
I'm loving this hub and it looks like others are also. I've experienced much good karma and for that I'm thankful.
Keep the awesome hubs coming Effer! Obviously karma is your friend also!:)
Well, we'll just have to disagree. No harm there.
Very good hub. Voted up!
I so believe in the concept of Karma, I've seen it in motion. How someone treats you is their Karma, how you react is yours.... my life motto!
I have proof of good karma!!! I was about to enter my kitchen tonight towards the kitchen sink when I heard a snapping sound and something flew across the kitchen into my kitchen sink! A blade from the ceiling fan had snapped off and if I was 3-4 seconds earlier it would have hit my back!! I'll say it again...I love good karma!!
OJ is an example of stupidity and arrogance rather than Karma.
Karma is an invention to believe that wrongs can boomerang back to the source. It is however just wishful thinking.
But please answer this: if Karma is real, how do you explain ANY of the Republican POTUS hopefuls?
Thank you for a very thought provoking hub. There are many writings on this subject and in 35 years of study, I certainly haven’t read them all. I do believe that karma is a justice system connected to the universe. To understand the real workings of karma, one must study reincarnation. Without that understanding, the concept of karma is incomplete, and that is why some people cannot accept it. They say, “Bad things happen to good people. A good person was killed or suffers from a devastating illness. Why did God let it happen?”
God had nothing to do with it. The person may have merely been in the wrong place at the wrong time or received a genetically bad body. OR the person may have been on the receiving end of something they did in a previous lifetime. I abhor domestic or sex abuse, and when I hear of an abused woman, I feel very sorry, but I do wonder if she is paying off a karmic debt for her participation in the sacking, burning, and raping in an innocent village lifetimes ago or was she previously a man who abused his wife. I wonder, but I don’t judge because she may be an innocent victim whose violator will receive his karma.
I believe that some of our world’s great people are paying off karmic debts, but I don’t believe that all great people are. Some are advanced souls referred to as “living saints.”
O.J. may not be able to pay off all his karmic debt in this lifetime, neither may Casey Anthony, but eventually they will have to learn life’s lessons for what they have done. I am so thankful that I don’t believe that either will be able to make a deathbed confession and go to heaven. That would be real injustice.
Thank you fpherj48 (beautiful lady), for your kind words. I felt like I had to comment because I think some people have a mistaken idea of karma. They may mistake the Golden Rule for karma: "I smiled at her and she smiled back," or a near miss: "if I hadn't ducked, I would have been hit in the head." If the person had been decapitated by the action, that might have been paying off a karma from being a guillotine operator in 17th Century France or some other injustice involving decapitation. But a near-miss doesn't pay off any karmic debts. It just serves as a warning.
Y'all please don't misunderstand me. If you don't live by the Golden Rule, you may experience karma somewhere down the line, but the instant reaction from another is not the karma itself.
What a great example you have made with O.J. Simpson....I think Karma was in full force when OJ got 33 years in prison for something that might have gotten somebody else probation or a couple of years at max. I believe in believe in Karma 100%...which is why I try and treat everybody fairly....cause I do not want the ultimate power of the universe to turn on me...nice job with this hub.
I definitely think that what goes around comes around. Though, I try to reason about bad things that happen to good people - could it be that they're paying due to past-life events or something? What do you think? Interesting hub here! Voted up/U/I :)
What a great Hub article! I too believe in Karma and I have experienced it both good and bad. I enjoyed reading this Hub and voted up and SHARING!
JSMatthew~
Such an interesting hub and topic. Thank you for sharing this here. Definitely a subject for much discussion.
I am a huge believer in Karma! Glad to know that I'm not alone. It is definitely a Universal Law that guides us all. All we need to do is slow down and take a good hard look around to see evidence of it everywhere!
Thanks for the Hub. I wholeheartedly believe in Karma. Put positive energy out there and good will come back.
I just can't begin to understand why "karma" (which is nothing but a human twist to what the Almighty God of the Universe had already established in His word..."Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.Galatians 6:7) suddenly become the rule that everyone wants to live by.
I guess as long as the idea doesn't seem tied to the God of the universe, its believable.
O.J. Simpson may have gotten what he deserve, but I like to think of it this way, would anyone reading this hub stand justified by the ultimate judge if called to be judged today.
Our eternal destiny is determined not by how much good we put out there, but how trusting we are of the author of the good. It still comes down to trusting Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior.
Intresting hub realy liked when you said you cant hide from karma so true! Great work!
fpherj48,
Interesting hub, though, I disagree with the idea of "karma". I believe that what comes around, was going to come around whether one deserved it or not. We humans tend to mystify events that are in reality quite simple.
If you plant an apple seed, you will get apples. There is nothing karmic about this. Rather, it is a natural occurrence. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. This is not karmic, it is called life.
Planting an apple seed will not give birth to oranges. You have to plant apple seeds to get apples. However, doing good deeds and being virtuous does not guarantee that good things will miraculously come to pass as a result of karma. Thinking so doesn't make sense.
Let's take the case of OJ. He committed a crime and now he is in jail. Had he not committed a crime, he would not be in jail. There was no supernatural force involved in making OJ pay his debt. Had he stayed away from trouble, he would have lived out the rest of his life as a free man. Instead, he chose to get in trouble, and now he's paying for it. Idiocy put him in jail, not karma.

Hi there.I do think there may be what could be called karma, perhaps the same as cause and effect. But i think more important to consider is how any being may move beyond karmic existence into what is eternally free,of life and death, cause and effect, fear, etc. Thanks for your huB!
Hi Paula ~ I am SO trying to catch up on my reading and glad I did not miss this great article. Your writing is superb as always. I just love how you share your wisdom.
I have always believed and often say "what goes around, comes around, GOOD AND BAD." I have seen this to be true numerous times. When I was younger, I was making decent money and always shared with others. I did special things to help my parents. Nothing they ever asked for or expected. I surprised both my sisters with expensive upgrades to their houses when they each purchased their first home within the same year. And so much more for friends and family. I did a lot for my nieces and nephews. I was so happy to give unconditionally. Years later when I was in a bind, I unexpectedly, out of the blue, won $10,000. I truly felt at that time what goes around comes around. I was extremely blessed and the timing of it all made sense that it was "good" karma that had come back around to me.
Of course over the years I can think of many more examples. More recently, I have had reason to believe that karma has once again shown itself. There has been some extremely negative things going on within Facebook as it relates to some writers from HubPages. By speaking up because I cannot stand dishonestly, I was dissed and harassed and quite hurt by some people who I thought were my friends. I would like to believe that no one has any malicious intent. But I was very wrong. I was seeing words and actions by others that were deceitful and hurtful. I spoke out for a very brief period of time because I was angry. I was "played" as were many others.
But I quickly stepped back knowing that what goes around comes around. I felt comfortable knowing that I could look myself in the mirror and know that I was a good and honest person. I trusted that karma would come around, I just did not know when.
It was the best thing I could have ever done. I am now witnessing what goes around comes around to those who were malicious. Honestly, it is amazing watching it all unfold.
So, bottom line is that I get it and I believe it! Thank you Paula for this awesome piece. Voted all the way across and then some!

This I believe wholeheartedly, even before I ever heard of Karma, my grandmother used to say he who does it here pays for it here, and you see it all the time destiny, or Karma, or god ,or the great equalizer, taking care of business with the, as the "ineffable george w.used to call them" evildoers.
Great hub; great discussions. Voted up and interesting.
I was born in Hindu family and tradition taught me to improve my karma. Later when I began studying Buddhism I understood why it is necessary to break the endless chain of samsara.
Your analysis is very inspiring.
